Available Light Film Festival ’25

100+ Films. 10 Days. 1 Unforgettable Festival.
February 7-16 | Whitehorse

The annual Available Light Film Festival is a celebration of Northern, Canadian, and international cinema and takes place in the heart of winter in Whitehorse. This year marks the 23rd year the festival will take over screens and spaces in the biggest Canadian city north of the 60th parallel.

ALFF ’25 features a full 10-day line up packed with media art, film, and conversation. Sook-Yin Lee, Dennis Allen, Don McKellar, and Brett Story and many other filmmakers will make the mid-winter trek to Whitehorse for the festival. They’ll take part in events, panels, and workshops that add an immersive layer to the festival for audiences who are looking to explore deeper into the stories and experiences shared on screens.

Audiences can expect to revel in the selection of stories that will be shared. Among the highlights are Anora the multi-award-winning love story comedy, Are We Done Now?, which dives into the Millennial psyche through the eyes of a therapist, Indigenous Comedy Thriller Seeds, and The Heirloom, a sweet, funny, and raw story of a neurotic couple and the rescue dog who will forever change their lives.

Four Yukon-made documentary films will also be screened at the festival showcasing diverse stories and characters from across the territory. Northlore will have its world premiere at the festival and share the mystical stories of five Yukoners about the connections forged between themselves and the Northern wilderness. Saturday will also be premiering at the festival with a heart-warming and uplifting real-life tale of Katherine, a woman with an intellectual disability, and her close friendship with her mother. Fire Tower tells of the solitary world and the fascinating humans behind the binoculars who watch for wildfires and take pride in protecting the land and its people. Old Crow Philosophy tells the story of the Vuntut Gwitch’in people and their land.

At ALFF ’25, get ready to be transported into new worlds, dive deeper into your own inner world, and get inspired about the endless possibilities for tomorrow through the eyes and stories of the filmmakers featured at the festival.

Whether you are ready to brighten your February with laughs and music, feel the thrill of suspense and horror, or expand your understanding of the ever-complicated world we live in, there is a perfect film waiting for you.
