More Information
Drums Echo Future Vision consists of 14 caribou hide drums made by Johnson Edwards and his apprentice Joe Migwans. Each drum includes a logo to represent a Yukon First Nation, painted by Indigenous artists Ken Anderson and Vernon Asp. The drums are designed to be fully functional and to visually present Indigenous art and culture in the Yukon. Raised in the traditional Northern Tutchone lifestyle, from Selkirk First Nation in Pelly Crossing, Edwards has maintained the cultural practice of making drums, snowshoes, and toboggans throughout his life and has passed these skills to the next generations. In this light, the drum becomes a powerful symbol of cultural resilience in its capacity to reverberate and resound.
