More Information

A human face emanates from a bud-like form in Béla Simó’s outdoor, marble sculpture, Reborn. With eyes closed deep in thought, the figure gently rests its pronouned right hand in a protective position over its chest. The elusive figure exists perpetually in contemplation as an extension of the two-tiered blossom. Seemingly halted in transition, Simó has created a moment that reflects on the interconnectedness of human existence and the natural world. Reborn is both delicate and pure in its monumentality, exemplifying the Romanian-Canadian artist’s stylized yet refined approach to form. Situated in the Yukon Arts Centre’s sculpture garden, Simó’s work is inspired by the untouched wilderness of its surroundings in Canada’s North. Either echoing the snow of winter or contrasting the foliage of summer, the white marble of Reborn is perennially reanimated with every change in season.
