This exhibition by Whitehorse based Ava P Christl comprises works from the Yukon, Iceland and Svalbard (Norway), made over the last five years. It is her way of offering a deep bow to the forests that sustain us – the living systems that are relational to each other and to us. The vast circumpolar Boreal forests are the breathing lungs of the earth, storing carbon and fresh water, providing habitat for millions of animals and humans. Without forests, we have no soil, no shelter, no clean air. We, especially those of us here in the north, owe these forests our very existence.
Through this exhibition, Christl encourages a deeper appreciation of the boreal forest and advocates for its preservation and protection. Above all, the work is an expression of gratitude for these vital, interconnected forests and the life they sustain.
