A Note from co-creator Brian Fidler
Atlantis started with the desire to create something ridiculous and entertaining with a group of fun, talented people. This summer I was lucky to have traveled to Japan and for the first week I was up at 4am every day. I walked the early morning streets of Osaka and hatched the plan for this show. Japanese architecture and sensibilities played an early role in building this show.
Selene Vakharia and I share a love of cardboard and its versatility and form; you can build anything out of cardboard and it’s free! Selene’s conception of the cardboard city of Atlantis and striking masks blow my mind. Shout out to the crew of artists who contributed to the Atlantis city build: Michel Gignac, Tara Kolla, LeaAnn McNally and Alaena Warner.
I came into rehearsals with a loose script and a group of people who I knew would be open to being silly. I also knew that this crew would bring their A game-and they really did. Special shout out to Allyn Walton for saying yes to almost every stupid idea I threw at her.
Thank you to the Yukon Arts Centre and especially Casey, Michele, Mike, Martin and Josh! I am so grateful to bring a new creation to the beautiful YAC stage and to know that the YAC folks had my back the whole way through this process.
